As a woman myself, I consider too many things before traveling solo in any city of India. Even you should also take all the necessary measures to confirm that if you are safe or not.
As per the records of Indian tourism, the percentage of solo female travelers in India is elevating.
Well, I won’t shy away from the facts that you read about crimes on women in India in the daily newspaper. There are bad and evil people everywhere on this earth. We always have to be aware of our surroundings.

Of course, no.

Traveling solo not only helps in discovering oneself but also makes you stronger and smarter.

Udaipur – Safest Solo Female Travel Destination in India
Udaipur in Rajasthan is one such destination that is loaded with culture, tradition, and majestic architecture of palaces and temples. It is one of the most googled travel destinations in India by foreigners.
The overwhelming vibe of Udaipur is one of the things that backpackers, couples, and even solo travelers love. The tourism industry is one of the primary sources of the state’s revenue. So, the authorities make sure that the tourists love and feel safe coming to Udaipur.
It’s a very safe and welcoming place for women travelers.
There are no issues for accommodation as you will get to see plenty of decent hostels, guesthouses, and resorts for stay. Also, you can taste the authentic Rajasthani cuisine.
Don’t miss City Palace, Lake Palace, Lake Pichola, Bagore ki Haveli, Fateh Sagar Lake, and Saheliyo ki Bari.
After Udaipur, I will say Jaipur is another city in Rajasthan, which is also one of the safest destination in India for solo female travelers.
Jaipur is known as the ‘pink city,’ and it is popularly well-known for its warm hospitality.
Despite the place being one of the most visited tourist places in India, you will feel lovely coming here and get to know about the local culture, tradition and its people.
If you are a female and traveling alone in Rajasthan, I would say three places Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur are very safe. If you choose to stay in a decent hotel, the hotel staff will guide you through the popular spots.
You can walk around the city streets in the day time and create memories by capturing as many images as you can.
Like I have mentioned in the above point, Jodhpur in Rajasthan is also very safe to travel for a solo female. There are so many things that you can visit on a trip to Rajasthan.
If you are traveling alone only with your backpack, you have to prepare yourself and plan properly like booking the right hotel, note down the areas that you will cover along with all other necessary details.
If you are taking a solo trip to Jodhpur, do make sure to see all the major attractions like Umaid Bhavan Palace, Mandore Gardens, and Clock Tower.
I have been to Goa 3 times, and it is one of my favorite places to go for a relaxing vacation. No matter how many times you visit Goa, it will never bore you. There are so many spectacular beaches, nightlife to enjoy, and of course water sports.
Goa has always been a favorite for the backpackers and solo travelers. But is it a safe travel destination for a solo female traveler?
Oh yeah, it is. Beaches like Arambole, Baga, Calangute in the North Goa, and Palolem, Colva, in the South Goa are some of the most visited yet safest beaches for a female who will travel alone.
Not only the beaches, but you can also join a group and trek to the incredible Dudhsagar Falls.
Note: If you are staying on the beaches of South Goa, try not to wander around at night outside.
A beautiful small hill station Munnar which is located in the Idukki district in Kerala, is considered a very safe destination in India for a solo female traveler.
From my recent trip to Munnar, I can tell it has a breathtaking beauty and landscape, especially just after the end of monsoon, i.e., September and October.
The mode of transport is easily accessible to tourists. Even as a solo female traveler, you won’t face any problem, especially for the language issue. In Kerala, people do understand and can speak English.
You can check out the following amazing places like Mattupetty Dam, Top Station, Kundala Lake, Tea Museum, and Eravikulam National Par.

Alleppey is yet another paradise in Kerala that is a perfect solo female travel destination in India. While on your trip to Kerala, you can cover both Munnar and Alleppey along with Thekkady too.
Alleppey is a top-rated honeymoon destination in India. It has some of the best resorts that are located right on the edge of the lake.
With lake, palm trees, backwater channels, and beautiful sunset, a trip to Alleppey would be a peaceful and an awe-inspiring solo traveling for you.
The best thing that you can do in Alleppey is 2-3 hours of boat/canoe ride through the narrow canals at only 700-900 INR. I bet you this will be your best experience and memory for life.
A canoe ride will cost you way less than 500 INR.
On my trip to Alleppey, my husband and I rented a boat for 3 hours at only 800 INR, and it was the best experience that I had on my entire 9 days Kerala trip.
My next recommendation for a solo female travel destination in India would definitely be ‘Pondicherry’ that is located in the southern part of India.
I think you should plan a solo backpack trip to Pondicherry, not because it is a safe place for women to travel.
Pondicherry is a place to explore more about; it’s history, Portuguese and French culture, European blend in food, and everything about the city.
It is a quiet, peaceful place, and you will find friendly locals.
I haven’t yet been to Pondicherry, but it is on my bucket list of travel.
A friend of mine with whom I used to share my room during my graduation days, recently, she had a fantastic solo trip to Pondicherry. When I spoke with her, she told me about her experience, which was entirely ‘learning.’
Just a few ago, I wrote a blog post on a detail travel guide for Hampi. Well, the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Hampi’ is a fabulous travel destination for women.
Foreign travelers have a thing for Hampi. However, I won’t say solo female travelers to wander around in Hampi as it is located in a remote part of Karnataka.
Before planning your trip, you must well aware of the place, although you will find several fellow backpackers too in Hampi.
The city of ruins is magnetic. You will come to know about its history and the reminiscence of century-old temples.
You can check out my blog post to know more about Hampi traveling.
People from all around the world have heard of Varanasi. Indians consider Varanasi as one of the holiest places. Devotees from around the country visit Varanasi to offer prayers.
Among the photographers, too, this is one of the best places in India to explore. If you are a photography enthusiast, your heart will desire to go and visit Varanasi taking some of the amazing shots.
Now, is it a safe place for women solo travelers?
Amidst the dirt, chaos, and crowd, the place might not look safe for solo female travelers, but if you are a smart thinker and have a strong conscience, you will enjoy this place wholeheartedly.
It’s a challenging and fascinating place to explore.
A heavenly trip to Ladakh that is located in the northernmost part of India is everyone’s dream. Over the years, Ladakh tourism has risen significantly. Solo travelers, couple travelers, the traveler in a group, or with family, for everyone traveling to Ladakh, is a dream come real kind of experience.
Some want to experience the road from Manali to Ladakh. Very frequently, you will see outstanding images of Ladakh are being uploaded on Instagram by bikers and solo travelers.
When it comes to solo female traveling to Ladakh, it is indeed safe because the area comes under the Indian military. Before planning your trip to Ladakh, you need to get through with everything.
There are plenty of camping, guest house, and cheaper hotels available at Leh and Ladakh that are safe for female travelers.
On the way to your journey, you will also come across other solo female travelers from different countries too.
So, if you are daring by heart and passionate about exploring the world, Ladakh would be one of the best and safest female travel destinations in India.
After Ladakh, Sikkim is 100% safe for solo female travelers to go. Sikkim is situated at the Himalayan range and is home to glaciers, alpine, and tons of varieties of flora.
Sikkim is a great place to take a break from the monotonous daily life. Usually, solo travelers take 5-6 days of a long trip to both Darjeeling and Gangtok.
You can stay in Darjeeling and spend one or two days in Gangtok. The accommodation in Gangtok is cheaper, but the options are minimal.
So, travelers/tourists usually choose to stay in Darjeeling, which is also a very safe destination for women travelers and take a day trip near Gangtok.
Mcleodganj is yet another one of the most beautiful travel destinations situated in northern India. Each year tons of tourists take a trip to this wonderland.
McLeaoganj is a travel hub for the backpackers and solo travelers. During your journey, you will come close to nature’s unseen beauty. You can explore the lovely Buddhist temples, monasteries, waterfalls, lakes, outdoor trekking adventures, and the small town of McLeodganj.
For a solo female traveler, a trip to McLeodganj would be a dream fulfillment. The best thing is all this would come in a minimal budget. The accommodation and food expenses are minimal here.
So, what you need to do is proper planning like which mode of transport to take from where the nearest bus/train to make, emergency contact, etc.
Females who live in southern India are often seen to take a solo trip to Mysore.
Unlike other safe places that I have mentioned above, is Mysore a relatively secure place for the women to travel alone?
Friends of mine who stay and work in the IT sector in Bangalore, a few of them have traveled alone in Mysore and felt that it is a completely safe place for the women to travel.
Actually, south India is comparatively a very safe and sound place in India for women to travel alone. Just like Hampi and Kerala, Mysore also treats solo female travelers with respect.
During the day time, you can keep exploring the place by renting a car, or you can also take public transport.
But I feel if you can drive, it is always better these days to rent a car and enjoy self-driving. You will be tension-free and safe indeed at your hand.
If you search in the Google search engine, you will pretty much find these places at almost every site. So, how mine is different from the rest?
Well, I haven’t seen many have added Sikkim (Gangtok), Alleppy, and Jodhpur in their list.
Although I haven’t read every article with the same title, I felt I should share my opinion about these beautiful and safe places in India.
In the ultra-modern age, women of our society are getting open to face the challenges and are willing to exist out from the traditional way of living. They want more than just a 9-5 job and a married life.
They want freedom and want to explore. If your heart is a wanderer, no material can give you the satisfaction that your soul desires.
Traveling is the only answer.
I hope you will find this blog post useful and keep exploring more articles from my website if that pleases you.
