Comedy movies are an excellent mood-lifter and will never bore you even if you watch it multiple times. The Bollywood industry has given us many such beautiful and classic comedy movies from the period of the 50s’.

Over the years, you must have noticed how the comedy genre has evolved. Some movies are famous for their slapstick comedy, some for specific comic roles and a few new age Bollywood movies has created what we call “an adult comedy,” which particularly, I don’t like.

Some old Hindi comedy movies are evergreen and evoke a nostalgic feeling in us. Films like Chupke Chupke, Khoobsurat, Golmaal will never get stale, these movies whenever we see them still makes us laugh with their excellent content.

Everyone has their list of favorite comedy movies; likewise, I will share mine in this article.

Hema Malini played an identical twin role in the comedy film. She was noted for her eloquent performance as both the character Seeta and Geeta.

Watch the film if you haven’t yet. Although many won’t like considering this movie on the list, there are comic scenes in the film that make the film entirely justified to be included in this list.

Chupke Chupke (1975)

As I am a lover of classic old Hindi cinema, I might have watched ‘Chupke Chupke’ for almost 8-9 times, and I can watch even more for its simplicity, humor and my favorite Om Prakash Ji.

The film still shines in terms of ‘best film’ and ‘best comedy film.’ Each character in the film is unique and has performed exceptionally well.

I wish the film industry to make more such films.

You can watch the movie on YouTube.

Bombay to Goa (1972)

Amitabh Bachchan and Aruna Irani in the lead roles, the film has some peppy songs. The movie was remade in 2007 but was unable to impress the audience.

That’s why it says- “Old is Gold.”

Golmaal (1979)

How many times have I seen Golmaal?

I can’t say. Each time I see the movie playing in channels, I sit and watch till the end. Golmaal is such a fantastic comic movie specially Amol Palekar, and Utpal Dutt were fabulous.

It was one of the best movies of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and the highest grossing film of that year.

Chasme Buddoor (1981)

Chasme Buddoor is a rom-com genre of movie. A great film with unique content, picturization of old Delhi. I do remember, when I was watching the movie with my parents and how my father was feeling nostalgic about Delhi.

But it was disappointing for me to see the new ‘Chasme Buddor’ which was directed by David Dhawan in 2013. One can’t recreate the old one with a new.

Chhoti Si Baat (1976)

The movie of 1976 is a very simple and sweet romantic-comedy film that shows India’s middle-class. A sweet love story of an ordinary working two individuals name Arun and Prabha, who work in South Bombay offices and take the same bus route.

There are a lot of metaphors in the film with pun intended humor.

Khoobsurat (1980)

Once again, a classic Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s film that touches my soul still when I watch the movie.

It feels realistic, earthy, the old-fashioned Rekha and a story that tries to tell something valuable to all of us. A light-hearted playful movie, ideal for a Sunday watch.

Chameli Ki Shaadi (1986)

A story of an amateur wrestler Charandas, who fell for a headstrong and outspoken girl name Chameli.

When their family opposes their alliance, they plan to elope. It was a critically applauded movie for great performances by Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh.

I don’t find many people talk about this movie as one of the best comedy movies in Bollywood, but if you have watched it, you will know why this movie is worth to add in my list of best Bollywood Movies in Comedy.

Judwaa was a remake of the Telegu film “Hello Brother.”

Judwaa (1997)

Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi (1997)

David Dhawan directed Akshay Kumar and Juhi Chawla starring movie Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi in the year 1997. Akshay Kumar was superb in this movie, his comic timing, expressions, and dialogues were funny.

I love that dialogue especially, “Bacchae ki Jaan lega kya.”

Haseena Maan Jayegi (1999)

Another comedy movie of David Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Karishma Kapoor, Anupam Kher played the respective lead roles. The film is funny, has a comedy of errors, and all the characters were terrific.

Phir Hera Pheri (2006)

A story revolves around two tenants and a landlord when they are in need of money and plan to get that money which unfortunately goes wrong.

Three actors Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal, who were splendid in their performances. Primarily, what Paresh Rawal did play “Babu Rao” I bet no one else could have done better than him. Even, in memes, the character ‘Babu Rao’ is being used.

phir hera pheri (2006).

Salman-Govinda duo in this film was a remake of the Hollywood movie Hitch (2005). David Dhawan’s directorial film was a hit in the Box Office India, and this was also Govinda’s comeback in the film industry after a long pause.

Malamaal Weekly (2006)

Hungama (2003)

Another movie of Priyadarshan’s which was adapted from his very own 1984 Malayalam comedy movie “Poochakkoru Mookkuthi.”

Paresh Rawal uplifted the whole movie with his power of wit and humor. His constant gibberish with his wife was fun to watch.

Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006)

Rohit Shetty’s directorial movie ‘Golmaal’ had got me into unstoppable laughing when I first watched this movie.

There is nothing common between the old Golmaal and this. Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal has an entirely different story, but each character is funny.

From this movie, the character of Tusshar Kapoor emerged into a something different level. If you have seen this movie, I am sure you have understood what I meant.

Welcome (2007)

The movie ‘Welcome’ was directed by Anees Bazmee, featuring Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, and Katrina Kaif. The comedy movie got mixed reviews from the critics and audience, but if you have watched the movie, I am sure you have enjoyed it and laughed.
