Piku (YouTube)

Shoojit Sircar’s Piku is an unusual movie that is so relatable. It shows the sweet and lovely chemistry of a father-daughter relationship played by Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone.

While watching Piku, there will always remain a light smile on your face. A single working daughter Piku, lives with her 70 year-old-father Bhaskor Banerji in CR park in Delhi.

Piku’s life revolves around taking care of her father’s medicine, blood pressure, and listening to all his childish tantrums. She doesn’t hang out much either; does she have a romantic life.

The story feels real. If you are a daughter, you will surely feel this like I do whenever I watch this film.

The film is all about the spontaneous dialogues of Amitabh; especially his fluctuate Bengali accent. I loved his flawed Bengali accent. I am a Bengali, maybe that’s the reason why I feel so relatable.

The lovely tale of Piku will touch your heart and soul and leave you with on a happy note.

Jab We Met (Amazon Prime Videos)

Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Jab We Met’ is one of the most romantic films of the decade. The movie has a memorable love story, cracking chemistry of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor, and a great number of songs made this film a superhit.

Is it a feel-good movie?

I think, yes.

Kareena Kapoor as Geet is funny and amazing to watch. Her tone, dialogue delivery and performance is a memorable one.

Even after years, one of the famous dialogue, ‘Akeli ladki khuli tijori ke jaisehoti hai’ and that swag of Geet saying, ‘Sikhni hoon main… Bhatinda ki!’ are some that we still remember.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was a box office superhit film under Yash Raj Banner in 2008. Usually, all the love stories start with how they meet, then love sparks between them; some troubles come between and then end with a marriage.

But here, in the story, it’s the opposite. Surinder is a simple man who marries Tani (Anushka Sharma) and falls in love with her. But does she love him back?

The movie won’t make you feel sympathetic towards Suri; instead, Suri-turned-Rocking Raj makes you laugh and cherish the Raj-Tani Jodi.

The film has a beautiful love story, ear-pleasing songs, enjoyable acting and some light-moments makes this a feel good Bollywood film to watch.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008)

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

2011 Bollywood romantic-comedy-drama film ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ is fun to watch that has some sparkling performances.

After ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na,’ I loved watching the carefree performance of Imran Khan. It is a story of two brothers Luv and Kush, where Luv, played by Ali Zafar, has asked his younger brother Kush (Imran Khan) to find a bride for him.

Kush chooses Dimple, who has a rocking personality, and eventually, he fell for her.

Does Dimple gets married to Luv?

The film is fun to watch, especially in the second half.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

Hasee to Phasee

2014 Bollywood romantic comedy film ‘Hasee to Phasee’ is a lovely story of two young hearts Nikhil and Meeta.

Although it has a familiar premise, Nikhil who is getting married to his long-time girlfriend but fell in love with her nerdy sister Meeta.

It has no extraordinary story or uniqueness, but the subtle humor and light romance will make you feel for both the lovers.

While watching the film, somewhere, you could connect with the story and characters at some moments.

I won’t say it is a magical film, but definitely, it has a feel good factor.

Hasee Toh Phasee (2014)

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

DDLJ is considered one of the most romantic films in the Hindi Cinema. When the free-spirit Raj and the desi Simran fall for each other on their trip to Europe and fight with their fate for love keeping all the Indian moral values intact, makes them the best couple.

DDLJ is said to be one of the longest-running Bollywood films ever. It is a simple love story that the two phenomenal actors have lifted to a certain level.

The chemistry of Raj and Simran is the most loved by the audience. And, of course, how can I not mention Late Amrish Puri’s electric performance of an angry father of a daughter.

Also, the Indian wedding tradition with plenty of music and dance is heart-rendering.

Even young couples and even-aged love to watch this movie.

Om Shanti Om

“Itni shiddat se maine tumhe paane ki koshish ki hai … ki har zarre ne mujhe tumse milane ki saazish ki hai”

It is Bollywood’s one of the most famous dialogue, and it is from the 2007 Farah Khan’s directorial film ‘Om Shanti Om.’ It was a massive hit, and it is also the debut film of Deepika Padukone.

If you consider the story of the film, it is vague, but when it comes to the acting, screenplay, and music, Om Shanti Om is Bollywood’s one of the biggest hit.

I am sure the majority has watched this film, and you can watch again if you are looking for feel good Bollywood movies.

PK

I would say PK is a philosophical film with a lot of factual comedy. If you see the box office collection of this massively hit Bollywood film in Wikipedia, you will be shocked to see the huge figures.

This film has earned more than 800 crores, and it is huge. IMDB has rated ‘PK’ 8.1.

Also, PK is the biggest achievement of Aamir Khan and Raju Hirani’s career. You can say, the film is a package that has everything you just name it: drama, comedy, superb acting, a social message, awareness, music.

Pk is a movie that makes you laugh; make you feel good and worthy of your time.

Chennai Express

Just a day ago, Atanu and I re-watched ‘Chennai Express’ on Netflix. A Bollywood romantic-comedy genre of a movie starring Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead.

Rahul sets out to Goa with his friends with the plan to immerse the ashes of his grandfather at Rameswaram. But his destiny brings him to meet Meenamma, who is the daughter of a Don in the south. She runs away from her marriage, and Rahul helps her in the escape.

It is always a pleasure to watch Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone acting together onscreen. More than just a romance, there is fun and humor in the movie with songs that will keep you dancing on your toes.

If you are looking for a relaxing Bollywood movie to watch, Chennai Express should be considered.

Stree

With a 7.6 rating in IMDB, ‘Stree’ is a Bollywood comedy-horror film that has a constant laugh and thrill. Despite its flaws, it is an enjoyable film to watch with family.

Some moments will give you goosebumps with fear. On the other hand, the magnificent performance of Rajkumar Rao keeps you interested throughout the movie.

Bollywood perhaps never made a film that is a combination of horror-comedy and executed so well.

If you see the Rotten Tomatoes audience score, it is 80%, which means highly likable.

The honest contribution of the entire cast has made this film one of the best modern suspense-thriller movies too.

Stanley ka Dabba (YouTube)

Amole Gupte’s extraordinary film ‘Stanley Ka Dabba’ is a heart-warming film to watch.

While watching the movie, it took me back to my primary school days, where I, along with my buddies, used to sit around the table and share each other’s tiffin.

The little Stanley is a precious kid; the way he performed is genuinely pure and gave an innocent performance. No matter how old you are now, watching Stanley ka Dabba is worth your time and a soul-filling movie.

Also, it is one of the most underrated Bollywood films.

Stanley Ka Dabba

Khoobsurat (1980) (Netflix)

Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Khoobsurat is a timeless classic. It is one of the best classic comedy movies of that era. The entire cast of the film is delightful to watch.

Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Khoobsurat is a film that will be guaranteed to lift your mood. The sweetness and simplicity of the characters and the plot are enough to enjoy watching this film.

The bond of Rekha as Manju and Ashok Kumar as Dwarka Prasad is a treat to the eyes.

Golmaal (1979) (Amazon Prime Videos)

Another one of my all-time favorite Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s film, ‘Golmaal’ is considered as the best film in the comedy genre of Indian cinema.

Golmaal is a laughter-riot. Amol Palekar as Ramprasad Sharma leading a double life because he told a lie to his boss Bhawani Shankar played by Utpal Dutt to save his job.

The humor of this film is situational; you won’t find any incessant jokes. The comedy comes through the character’s error and situational behavior.

The comic timing between Utpal and Amol Palekar is graceful and natural. There isn’t any scene that doesn’t provoke you to giggle or laugh.

I would say watching Golmaal on Amazon Prime Videos would be the best way to kill your deprived mood in this lockdown at home.

Chupke Chupke is yet another ideal situational comedy film that revolves around Dr. Parimal Tripathi, played by Dharmendra who keeps on cracking pranks on Raghav played by Late Om Parkash ji.

Chupke Chupke is the best medicine for you to cheer you up if you feel low.

Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (YouTube)

Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa is one of Shah Rukh Khan’s best performance of his career.

He has played the role of happy-go-lucky musician Sunil, who is head over heels in love with Anna played by Suchitra Krishnamurthy. But she loves Chris, played by Deepak Tijori.

Suni is shown as a lame and loser who failed in his academics and lost respect in the sight of his father when he caught lying.

But still, he is the most lovable character in this film who is loved by all for his innocence and kind heart.

“Kaun Devi Prasad?”

Baburao, played by Paresh Rawal, is the most amusing character in Priyadarshan’s ‘Hera Pheri.’

Band Baaja Baarat (Amazon Prime Videos)

Band Baaja Baarat is a pretty well-written script and, with a highly energetic cast like Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh, made this film a box-office hit.

Apart from the story, what’s really worth watching in the film is the performance of both the actors as Bittoo and Shruti, two youngsters who want to start their wedding planner business.

There is nothing much unique in the story, but the young audience liked the jovial chemistry of Bittoo and Shruti.

Vicky Donor (YouTube)

Vicky Donor has brought into the limelight a very bold and unique story. Watching the film was feeling something new when it releases at the theatre.

Ayushmann Khurana became one of the sorted actors of Bollywood who kind of started a new trend in the Hindi cinema.

He kept on coming with movies that shine a light on the social issues, but none of his movies are boring or dull to watch.

I have included several movies of Hrishikesh Mukherjee above, and here is another film ‘Bawarchi.’

There isn’t anything unique about the story of this film. It is a pretty ordinary and flat storyline, but what makes this film a super memorable one?

It is the cute chemistry of Jai and Aditi, the peppy music, and the well-constructive narration. The way the story started and continued, it feels like remembering our college days and the group of friends that used to be our family.

Barfi is a sweet and sublime love triangle with a hint of mystery in the second half of the story. Watching both the actor Ranbir Kapoor as Barfi and Priyanka Chopra as Jhilmil are fresh in terms of their performances.

Well, this may seem like watching a Charlie Chaplin film, but overall, it is a soulful and amusing film to watch. What has really worked in the film is the brilliant performance of Ranbir Kapoor and his constant phenomenal switching in expressions.

Priyanka Chopra as Jhilmil has no dialogues as she is autistic but nailed throughout with her remarkable performance.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Netflix)

When Naina, a medical student, meets Bunny, a photographer along with their friends Avi and Aditi, on a daunting expedition to Manali. Naina starts experiencing life in a broader picture.

So as we get along with the story, we find elements of emotions, love, friendship, and heartbreaks in the film.

If we talk about the story, writer-director, Ayan Mukherjee hasn’t added any freshness in the plot. He only worked on an internal conflict with his characters.

Deepika Padukone looked supremely attractive, and Ranbir, with his allure and performance, has made the chemistry look outstanding. Aditya Roy Kapoor seems to still doom in consuming alcohol after Ashiqui 2.

Whereas Kalki Koechlin is fresh as wild Aditi.

It is indeed a film that will make you happy and feel relax.

The story of the film is pretty simple, Manu, an NRI doctor, comes to India for marriage and meets Tanu. He falls in love with her, but Tanu has a plan to elope with her lover (Jimmy Shergill).

The dialogues and performances are the key reason for the success of the film.

I am though a bit biased when it comes to her film as I am a big fan of her.

Still, I would say if you are looking for a feel-good movie to watch during this lockdown, Tanu Weds Manu is a pretty fun-filled film to watch.

Chak De India, a film that pays tribute to the hockey sports in our country. The film that released in 2007 and continued to be the best sports-drama film in Bollywood.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has played a memorable role of his career in this movie. A mentor of the Indian woman hockey team, a team that is being neglected and taken less care of because of the so-called ‘gender question.’

We have something to learn from this film, and one of the most important things of all is ‘don’t underestimate the will power of women.’

The women now in the 21st century are way ahead than anyone can think of.
