Best Romantic Movies on Netflix India:
‘The Notebook’ is regarded as one of the best love story movies ever. The movie is an adaptation of the 1996 novel by Nicholas Sparks. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams played the role of a passionate young couple in the film.
The movie is about a couple that we see them as old, Allie Nelson and Noah Calhoun. Allie is old now and suffering from Alzheimer’s, and Noah reads to her from a notebook that tells their love story as a young couple.
‘The Notebook’ is a passionate, emotional and heart touching love story that both the lead actors have played exceptionally well.
The storyline has no uniqueness, though, but it is all the narration and the performances that make the movie worthy of watching more than once.
“The Proposal” is an American romantic comedy film where the plots center around two lead characters Margaret Tate, an editor-in-chief of a New York book publishing company, and Andrew Paxton, her assistant.
Margaret is facing deportation from the U.S. because her visa is expired, and she convinces Andrew to marry her temporarily.
The pseudo couple travels to Sitka, Alaska, to Andrew’s hometown to meet his family, and is it there that both grow fond of each other and fell in love amidst the hatred.
Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, both the actors are my favorites, and no matter how many times I watch the movie, it is always a pleasure.
‘The Proposal’ tells a recycling story, but with all the cheerfulness it brings onscreen through its performances, I don’t mind telling you to rewatch the romantic movie on Netflix.
Netflix’s original movie “Tallgirl” is about a teenage girl, Jodi (Ava Michelle), who is struggling in her high school, being super tall. Jodi is uncomfortable with her body, and she misfit everywhere she goes because of her weird height.
Dunkleman, the best friend of Jodi, always stands up for her, and he likes her, but he never told her that. The movie is a predictable light-hearted love story that is fun to watch.
Though not the best romantic movie but a good one to watch on Netflix.
Out of Africa
I watched the 1985 classic romantic movie “Out of Africa” a couple of days back and realized the beauty of the movie. The story is loosely based on Danish author Karen Blixen’s life in Kenya and her love affair with Denys Finch Hatton.
So best is the movie that won seven Academy Awards. The movie explores Kenya beautifully, and visually it is so pleasing to watch both the characters being in love. The spirit of the film is its location and Blixen’s excellent storytelling way.
Even after a decade now in 2020, a movie like “Out of Africa” is absolutely stunning to watch.
I don’t think there is any other movie where Kenya is shown artistically beautiful.
If you haven’t yet watched the film, you shouldn’t miss it at all.
Always Be My Maybe
Netflix’s 2019 rom-com film “Always be My Maybe” is a fresh and quirky love story that is fun to watch.
Directed by Nahnatchka Khan, it is a classic tale of two childhood sweethearts Marcus (Randell Park) and Sash (Ali Wong), who grows up together but went to different paths after a stupid incident.
They reunite after years but now as adults. More than just a love story, the director wanted to narrate an Asian-American love story.
From the beginning of the movie, it did draw our attention to their upbringing, friendship, family values, and Sasha’s success in America being an immigrant.
So, I liked the film more because of its perfect blend of cultural details with humor. The cameo of Keanu Reeves adds a generous spice to the film.
British rom-com drama “About Time” is one of the most loved romantic movie starring Rachel McAdams, Domhnall Gleeson, and Bill Nighy. There are some movies like Notting Hill, My Best Friend’s Wedding and there is About Time, a feel-good romantic movie.
The movie tells the story of a young man Tim Lake who can make time travel, and he tries to change his future for good.
Wow, Spike Jonze’s “Her” is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is a sci-fi romantic drama film about an ordinary guy Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix), who is lonely, introverted and a depressed man.
He establishes a beautiful relationship with Samantha (Scarlett Johansson) and AI virtual assistant. Theodore’s interaction with his OS Samantha is interesting and has layers of emotions.
It is interesting to watch how Jonze has imagined and set the futuristic premises. A society that is highly dependent on the existence of artificial intelligence even for establishing relationships.
The movie remains engaging and sends a message about how our society will going to be soon.
The movie received numerous awards and appreciations; it won the 86thAcademy Awards for Best Original Screenplay.
The Kissing Booth
Netflix Original teen rom-com film “The Kissing Booth,” tells the story of two childhood best friends Elle (Joey King) and Lee (Joel Courtney), the conflict comes when Elle falls in love with Noah (Jacob Elordi) Lee’s older brother.
I like the ending of the movie where Elle and Noah bid goodbye to each other at the airport, and Elle rides back Noah’s motorcycle to embark on a new life.
The story left unsaid at the end, letting the audience to guess. With Noah gone, it is now left to Elle how she will continue living her life and relationship with Noah.
Falling Inn Love
Falling Inn Love is yet another Netflix original romantic flick directed by Roger Kumble. It tells a fairytale love story of Gabriela Diaz, who is out of work in San Francisco and broke off with her boyfriend Dean.
High in the influence of wine, she ends up entering a contest to win an Inn in the countryside of New Zealand.
In desperate need of a change in the environment, she flies down to the place and discovers the Inn; nothing looks like the picture she saw online. It is a crumbling Inn with nothing inside.
This is where she met Jake Taylor, a Kiwi contractor, and firefighter continues to embark with him in a new form of relationship.
It is a simple, light-hearted romantic movie with some beautiful shot of New Zealand’s scenic beauty.
Love per Square Foot
Netflix’s original Hindi movie “love per Square Foot” is the next one of the best romantic movies on Netflix India to watch.
With a stellar cast and good narration, the movie explores the dream of owning a house in the urbane Mumbai by two protagonists Sanjay Chaturvedi (Vicky Kaushal) and Karina D’s ouza (Angira Dhar).
Both works in the same office and both enroll in a housing scheme, who will get to keep the house?
Well, that’s not the only thing to watch, the chemistry between the two actors is spot on making us, the audience relates to their story.
More than just a love story, ‘Love per Square Foot’ brings into light how an individual middle-class struggle to fulfill their dream of owning a house in the city of dream ‘Mumbai.’

Elisa & Marcela
The Spanish film “Elisa & Marcela” was first premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and shortly after that acquired by Netflix. It is a fascinating true story of a Spanish lesbian couple and their struggle.
It is a bit melodramatic movie in a slow pace trying to build the character and story. Both Elisa & Marcela married in 1901 in Spain by tricked a priest long before same-sex marriage got legal in the country (2005). To protect themselves, what they did, and how they survived is the story.
The movie isn’t for the mass; those who support the LGBT community will like the film.
Sleepless in Seattle
The classic romantic movie of 1993 “Sleepless in Seattle” starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan along with Ross Malinger, who played the young Jonah. It is a beautiful film that connects two people from across the country to complete an incomplete man and a darling boy.
The movie has some beautiful songs and received accolades from the critics. The movie is one of the favorites because it is shot in Seattle, where I have spent two beautiful years with a lot of good memories.
The movie has shown a lovely father-son relationship that is endearing to watch. It is indeed a magical movie that you should consider the best romantic movies on Netflix India.
The Half of It
Netflix original coming-of-age comedy-drama film ‘The Half of it’ got released in 2020. The film is likable because of its sheer innocence and uniqueness.
The story takes place in a small town called Squahamish, Elle Chu (Leah Lewis), a Chinese American student is a loner and so much smarter than everyone else in her class. She makes a little money by writing essays for other students.
She has a friend Paul who dreams of changing his family’s sausage recipe. Elle sets Paul with the quiet, pretty lady Aster but it is Elle with whom Aster exchanges messages while Aster doesn’t know that that the messages are from Elle.

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, as socially outcast two individuals who fall in love oddly in the movie “Silver Lining Playbook” are worth watching.
The movie is based on Matthew Quick’s 2008 novel of the same name. Pat (Bradley Cooper) is a man with bipolar disorder who got released from the psychiatric hospital and stayed with his parents. While he is confident of getting back his wife, he meets Tiffany (Jennifer).

Richard LaGravenese’s “Beautiful Creatures” is a romantic fantasy gothic drama movie based on the novel of the same name by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.
The movie is underrated; nobody talks about being one of the best romantic movies.
The plot is a bit similar to that of Twilight, but the love story here in the movie is more subtle and emotional. Also, there are no bloodsucking vampires here roaming around the city freely.
It is a love story between Lena, a powerful witch, and Ethan, a young college lad.
The Spectacular Now
The Spectacular Now is a lovely film about two high school teen Sutter (Miles Teller) and Aimee (Shailene Woodley). Sutter is a troubled young boy who has a father and drinking issues. He isn’t looking for any relationship, but he loves hanging out with Aimee.
